About Us
We want to help you to be the healthiest you can be. Will you work with us to achieve that?

Horfield Health Centre
We look after over 18,000 patients across Lockleaze, Horfield, and parts of Ashley Down, Henleaze and Filton.
When you call or come in, you will speak to one of our fabulous Patient Co-ordinators. The more information you give them about the help you need, the better they can assist you. They are specially trained to keep your information confidential, and they are also specially trained to direct you to the best person for your problem. They are dealing with hundreds of patients per day, so please be kind to them.
We have a range of different clinical staff, and the Patient Co-ordinators will get you to the most suitable one. That’s why they need you to share some information from you. It could be a GP, but it could also be a Practice Nurse, Health Care Assistant, Pharmacist, Physiotherapist or a member of our Health and Wellbeing Hub.
If you need to see a GP, they will always try to get you to see your own GP. By dealing with the same GP as much as possible, you get to know them better and they get to know you better. Evidence shows that gives much better health outcomes (which reduces costs for the NHS) as well as giving you a better patient experience and giving the GP more job satisfaction – a genuine win-win situation.
We want to give you the best patient care that we can – so please, help us to help you.
Online Services
We know our phone lines are very busy. If you are able to, try calling us at less busy times of the day – such as between 11am and 1pm, and after 4pm. We now have a callback system, so if you are queuing to speak to us, you can keep your spot in the queue, and we will call you back when you reach the top.
- You can also book an appointment online – just visit our appointments area.
- You can also register online with us – just visit our new patients’ page.
- Need some medication – that is now handled by our off-site Prescribing Hub, and you can contact them directly here.
We will always want to help you. If you think we could do something better, please tell us – and equally, if you think we did something well, please tell us, as it’s always nice to hear.
Better still, why not join our Patient Participation Group. They help us to design services that best fit our patient’s needs, and advise us about changes that might work better.

Accessibility Needs
We want to get better at communicating with our patients and ensure you can read and understand the information we send you.
If you find it hard to read our letters or if you need someone to support you at appointments, please complete our Accessibility Needs Form below.
Meet our Team
We now have almost 20 GPs, plus a large team of nurses and health care assistants.
We are also lucky enough to have a wide range of other clinical colleagues working on site (such as pharmacists, physios and health & wellbeing specialists) who may be able to see you sooner.
We have an offsite Prescribing Hub (that deals with medication requests across our PCN).
Our Patient Co-ordinators deal direct with you, our patients, as well as doing a number of administrative roles. Our Admin/Secretarial team do the majority of the administration to make sure our clinicians can concentrate on helping you.
Finally, the Management Team oversees everything that happens in the practice, and tries to make sure things run as smoothly as possible.
All of our colleagues try to do the very best job they can, so if they don’t quite do something the way you would like, please be kind to them if you need to point that out.

Green Impact For Health Award
Horfield Health Centre achieved a Gold Award in 2023
Horfield Health Centre acknowledges the current Climate and Ecological Emergency, recognising climate change as one of the biggest threats to public health. We are continually working hard to try to improve our sustainability.
Green Impact for Health is delivered by ‘Students Organising for Sustainability UK’ and volunteers led by Terry Kemple – one of our retired GPs. The programme is designed to provide practical advice and tips to general practices across the UK, that want to improve their sustainability and make better decisions in this Climate and Ecological Emergency. The NHS is responsible for 4-5% of the UK’s carbon footprint and we want to reduce our harmful impact on Planetary Health.
Examples of changes we have already made:
- Improving recycling and disposal of waste
- Reducing energy use for heating and lighting and electrical appliances
- Switching patients to more environmentally friendly inhalers
- Installing solar panels for sustainable energy
- Reducing water use
- Encouraging staff to walk or cycle to work
- Sourcing sustainable food and drinks for the practice
- Enhancing our green spaces and encouraging nature-based wellbeing activities
- Encouraging staff, patients and local residents to lead greener, healthier lives
We continue to strive to improve. Visit Greener Practice for more information
