Healthcare Assistants
The Practice Nurses are assisted by our Healthcare Assistants who carry out a wide range of procedures
The Practice Nurses are assisted by our Healthcare Assistants Karen Serjeant, Anne Saunders, Sharon Povey and Emily Durnell who carry out a wide range of procedures such as taking blood samples, blood pressure monitoring, health checks, weight management etc.
Karen joined Horfield as a HCA in 2009 from the banking sector. She became senior HCA in 2019 Karen is trained in phlebotomy (blood taking), ECGs and can give injections such as B12 and common vaccines. She is also qualified to do NHS health checks.
Sharon has worked in the NHS since 2004 and joined Horfield as a HCA in 2019. Sharon is experienced in phlebotomy (blood taking), ECGs and assisting with contraceptive coil fittings. She can also give injections such as B12 and common vaccines.
Annie has worked in the NHS since 2000. Initially in cancer care before supporting people with learning disabilities. She began working in general practice in 2017 and joined Horfield in 2021 as an HCA. Annie is experienced in phlebotomy (blood taking), wound care, ECGs, coil fits and can give injections such as B12 and common vaccines.
Annie is currently working towards her nurse practitioner qualification at UWE Bristol and expects to qualify in 2025.
