March 2012

Dr Mike Armstrong who was a GP trainee at Horfield and has worked as a locum with us and elsewhere since completing his GP training will start work as a salaried GP. Dr Armstrong will be working for 6 sessions a week, whilst existing partners reduce their working sessions Dr Kemple (2 sessions less), Dr Jewell  (1 session less) & Dr Lee (1 session less). This will provide two more GP sessions each week for the practice.

January 2012

Dr Liz Lee's locum from 3rd January with be Dr Mike Armstrong. Dr Lee will be returning following her treatment for cancer, working some open surgeries during February and early March as part of her rehabilitation process and hopes to return to a normal working routine including looking after her own patient list again in mid March.

December 2011

We have completed our purchase of Horfield House, the building next door, which we bought from Bristol City Council. We would like to thank everyone who helped and signed our petition.

Over the next 12 months Horfield House will be renovated, and the site landscaped so that it becomes part of the Health Centre grounds. In about a year (December 2012) some of the Health Centre services (like the Pharmacy and the Community Nursing offices) will move into larger premises in Horfield House  which will free up more space in the Health Centre for new consulting rooms and other services

November 2011

Dr Liz Lee's locum for November & December with be Dr Nadeen Ghalta. She will start on 14/10/11. We will make further arrangements to cover Dr Lee's work till she returns early in 2012.

October 2011

Flu clinics for eligible patients will be starting on Wednesdays at the usual time 1.30-3pm

These will be done alphabetically by your Surname......No appointment is needed

September 2011

Dr Liz Lee's locum for September & October with be Dr Terri Rotchell. She will start on 26/9/11. We will make further arrangements to cover Dr Lee's work till she returns in March 2012.

August 2011

30/8/11 Unfortunately Dr Liz Lee has a serious illness and will be on sick leave for  6 months- we think until mid March 2012. We will appoint a locum GP as soon as we can to look after her patients

3/8/11 Two new GP Registrars joined us

Dr Penny Quieros, ST3,  is with us for a year

Dr Katherine Kearley-Shiers, ST2 is with us for 6 months

June 2011

The Patient Record Network (PRN) is now live at the Bristol Royal Infirmary Emergency Departments. Consultants are now able to access shared patient records, subject to explicit patient consent and on a read-only basis, where they are required to support the delivery of clinical care. The PRN is also due to go live shortly at Southmead and Frenchay and the GP Out of Hourse Services Brisdoc and also at Frendoc in due course.

February 2011
Horfield Health Centre is now a member of the a local Patient Record Network. This means that key areas of your medical record could be securely accessible by the local, NHS teams who are responsible for your care in an emergency or when the surgery is closed. With this system, your consent is needed every time before anyone outside the practice has permission to access your records. We believe that sharing this information will improve the quality of healthcare you receive when you receive urgent or emergency NHS treatment in Bristol, but the choice to share this information is yours. For detailed information please click here.

January  2011

We have started a 'Self Treatment room' next to the reception area where you can check your own Blood pressure, height and weight, and pick up leaflets about how to manage common conditions. The video programme in the waiting area now features our own GPs and nurses talking about how to manage simple conditions. This is just starting and will develop over the next few months.

December 2010

You can now phone 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week to make an appointment with a GP. The appointment time will be during our normal opening hours.. See Patient Partner for details on how to use this system on your phone.
