Local artist Debby Bird spent a couple of days as “Artist in residence”, interacting with patients in the waiting room and baby clinic. The aim was a light, airy, uplifting sculpture that gently moves.
Patients and staff were asked how well they felt, and chose from a range of paper circles the texture that best described how they were feeling.
Every single piece chosen and folded by the patients and staff has been included in the sculpture to reflect the Horfield; community (about 525 circles all together).
Why folded paper?
Debby says "Paper is everywhere, but I wanted to encourage people to look at an everyday thing in a new way. In ancient history paper was a very precious thing, often folded to be used as an offering for good health or to wish wellbeing to others."
